Brazil is China's largest trading partner, second largest export destination market and first largest source of imports in Latin America. It has the fifth largest population in the world and the largest economy in South America. Sourced from a release by the Brazilian National Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE), Brazil's economy rose by 2.9 per cent in real terms in 2023, bringing its economy to $2.17 trillion, overtaking Canada and Russia and re-entering the top ten. Based on a population of about 200 million people, Brazil's GDP per capita rebounded to $10,600, another $10,000 breakthrough. The latest data released by the Brazilian Ministry of Development, Industry and Trade also shows that Brazil's trade exports to China reached $105.75 billion in 2023, making China the first trading partner country in the history of Brazil's foreign trade with an export volume of more than $100 billion. The top five Brazilian exports to China are soybeans, crude oil, iron ore, beef and pulp, accounting for 37%, 19%, 19%, 5.5% and 3.7% of Brazil's total exports to China, respectively. The structure of Brazilian exports to China is relatively stable, with primary products belonging to the agriculture, livestock, mining and energy categories.
